About ABC Edu
A free, independent way to find and compare schools in England using only official data — shown as it was published, and explained in plain English.
What ABC Edu does
ABC Edu brings together three official sources that are usually spread across different government websites: the school’s own details from Get Information about Schools, its latest Ofsted inspection, and its results, pupil numbers and attendance from the Department for Education’s performance tables. You can search by postcode, town or name, see schools on a map, and compare up to four side by side.
Why we never make up a score
Some websites turn everything into a single rating or league-table position. We don’t. Each official measure tells you something different, has its own limits and comes from a different year, and combining them means making choices on your behalf. So every number on ABC Edu is shown on its own, with its date and where it came from, and our explainers say what it can and can’t tell you.
What we don’t do
- We don’t change official figures. If something looks wrong, we check it against the source — and schools can correct their own details with the Department for Education.
- We don’t sell positions. Search results are in the order you choose: nearest first, or A to Z.
- We don’t use tracking cookies, and advertising cookies only if you accept banner ads. See our privacy notice.
Banner ads
Some pages carry banner ads from 5od, a small ad service run by the owner of this site. They’re for shops and brands in the Awin affiliate network, and they’re chosen to suit the page, not you. Each one is labelled “Ad”. If you buy something after clicking one, we may earn a commission. Ads never change what we show about a school, and they only load if you accept ads cookies; see how ads and cookies work here.
Who runs it
ABC Edu is owned by Steven Smith. It is not connected with the Department for Education, Ofsted or any school, trust or council.
